The most common foot injuries resulting from playing handball include sprained ankles and heel pain. When jumping and landing wrong on the foot while playing handball, one can easily get a sprained ankle. The foot can fold inward, which can lead to a rupture or tear of the ligament on the outside of the foot. Among other things, this can happen if a previous ankle sprain has not adequately healed, there is reduced coordination and balance in the ankle, or one is training on uneven surfaces. If one has sprained their ankle, they are likely to feel pain and experience swelling, especially on the outside of the ankle, and have reduced mobility. Similarly, heel pain can occur from overstraining the heel area. This can happen if there is insufficient rest and recovery after playing handball or one is over-exerting themselves, particularly for their age. One might feel pain during and after playing handball when pressure is put on the heel after a period of rest, and sensitivity is around the heel bone.
